The Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) participates in and coordinates a number of domestic and international industry events and exhibitions. This dental industry events calendar will provide you with information on upcoming industry events, either organised by ADIA or allied stakeholders that may be of interest to stakeholders in the dental industry and dental professions.

The ADIA-ISC Industry Skills Committee reviews dental industry skills needs and works with private and public vocational education and training providers to address skills shortages in addition to oversight of the sucessful ADIA Introduction To Dentistry Course.

The Practice Management Workshops are a series of CPD programs for the Dentist and Practice Manager to assist in business management, systems management and people management. In addition to the provision of information, handy tips and hints, guidelines and legislation, the topics will also assist in preparation for practice accreditation should the practice proceed in this direction.

This two hour workshop focusing on how all presenters can improve their presentation skills is offered to dental professionals who are considering becoming involved as a presenter in the CPD program offered by ADA Victoria. The workshop will provide practical advice on constructing your presentation, on engaging your audience, on honing your message and importantly on building your self-confidence.

15/02/2012 – Orthodontic principles for dental therapists and orthodontic hygienists
University of Queensland

 

This clinically relevant course will provide information regarding orthodontic diagnosis and the use of contemporary orthodontic appliances. The importance of orthodontic records will be highlighted and the relevant duties of auxiliary staff for the fabrication and removal of orthodontic appliances will also be covered.

17/02/2012 – Extra-oral radiography licensing
University of Queensland

 

This course is for dentists, BOH graduates and dental assistants (Cert IV qualified) wishing to get an extra-oral licence from radiation health in Queensland. After successfully completing the examination at the end of the course, candidates will receive a certificate of proficiency in extra-oral radiography. The course will cover all aspects of extra-oral radiography, radiation hygiene and the relevant Act relating to the use of extra-oral irradiating apparatus.

17/02/2012 – Periodontal instrumentation including sharpening and ultrasonics

Clinical skills required for providing periodontal therapy most effectively and efficiently may be enhanced and strengthened by viewing all instruments as a total unit rather than as separate entities. This workshop presents innovative instrument designs and solutions, driven approaches to meet the inevitable challenges of mechanically treating “invisible” root surfaces, and examine the design characteristics of a variety of hand instruments for appropriate skill levels.

17/02/2012 – Prosthodontic Perfection – Tips and tricks for precise restorations
ADA Victoria

 

The ability to critically evaluate a tooth for any indirect preparation and then precisely prepare the appropriate surfaces has diminished since dental implants have reduced the number of crowns and FPDs constructed. The required skill and decision-making remains. The factors that contribute to a precise tooth preparation need to be understood. Retention and resistance features are analysed. The appropriate instruments and their operation to complete the desired preparation are listed.
