Representing Dental Industry Excellence

ADIA's Commitment To Environmental Sustainability

Reflecting both the commitment of the dental industry to environmental sustainability, and the leadership role that the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) has, the Association has recognised the need to change its work and consumption patterns to reduce the environmental impact of its operations.

The ADIA Board has approved the ADIA Environmental Sustainability Policy which sets out a number of initiatives that alter the way the Association goes about its business.  These positive initiatives are designed to minimise waste and reduce the Association's carbon footprint and include:

  • Off-setting carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles and air travels;
  • Purchasing electricity for Association's offices from 'green' sources;
  • Sourcing paper from paper certified by the Forest Stewarship Council;

Sustainability is an important component of the 2010-15 ADIA Strategic Plan which includes the commitment for ADIA to achieve carbon-neutral status by 1 July 2011.  For more information on ADIA's commitment to sustainability please review the:

Beyond making ADIA's day-to-day operations environmentally sustainable, ADIA works with the Australian dental industry to support a number of projects to reduce the industry's environmental impact.  An excellent example of this is the dental industry's efforts to support dentists in retention of amalgam used in filling, a cooperative approach that stops mercury (that is used in amalgam) reaching our water ways.
