TGA Consultation — Medicines Labelling & Packaging


The Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) is reviewing a consultation paper issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) concerning recommended changes to the presentation of information on the labels and packages of medicines.

The proposals improve the visual presentation of the labels and packages of medicines are aimed to enable the safe use of medicines by consumers and cover: products purchased from a supermarket or a pharmacy without a prescription, or products purchased following a consultation with a health professional, usually with a prescription. The TGA’s intent is to regulatory solutions to address widely recognised consumer safety risks associated with the current regulations for the labelling and packaging of medicines.

ADIA has been invited by the TGA to tender whether or not the dental industry supports the proposed changes. Further advice has also been requested on the impacts of likely changes, that is, what is the likely cost to the dental industry.
