Guest Speaker Information:

Enzo Palombo is Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne. He is a microbiologist with over 30 years of research experience in basic and applied microbiology. His research interests include gastrointestinal microbiota, food microbiology, microbial “omics”, environmental microbiology and nanotechnology, and complement his teaching in microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology and public health.  

Prof. Palombo has expertise in the application of various technologies used to explore microbial community diversity in clinical samples, animals, foods, environment and water systems. These research activities have been supported by grants from the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, Department of Health, Australian Meat Processor Corporation, Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre and from various industry partners, including large multinational companies and biotechnology SMEs. His laboratory has a long history of investigating new and alternative strategies for controlling microbial growth relevant to food, medical and environmental applications.
