ADIA Code of Practice — Competitions Compliance Guidance

.
The Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) developed the ADIA Code of Practice to reflect a priority of the Australian Government that decisions made about patient diagnosis and treatment options are based on sound clinical evidence, not driven by incentives or other influences.

The practical outcome is that when conducting a competition there should be no inducement, such as offering ticket for a prize draw, that may affect the decision of a dental professional as to which is the appropriate diagnostic or treatment pathway for a patient.

Competitions can be conducted when ―

Its conduct complies in all respects with all relevant laws and regulations (e.g. where required permits have been obtained from state/territory governments); and

The entry to the competition must not be dependent upon the ordering, purchase or supply of a therapeutic product.

Examples of competitions that are permissible under the ADIA Code of Practice include business card draws or social media promotions (e.g. Like a Facebook page to go into a prize draw).

At no time can a competition be held where in order to obtain an entry a healthcare professional needs to order/purchase a product.
