Shadow Health Minister To Meet Dental Industry Again

2nd Aug 18

Summary —

The Shadow Minister for Health, the Hon. Catherine King MP, will meet with the dental industry’s senior leadership when the annual Dental Industry Parliamentary Roundtable event convenes in Canberra in October 2018.

Key Issues For The Dental Industry —

As the peak business organisation representing manufacturers and suppliers of innovative dental products, the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) works with the nation’s political leadership in order to reduce the red-tape faced by member businesses. A key component of this advocacy strategy is the annual Dental Industry Parliamentary Roundtable initiative which will be held at Parliament House on 16 October 2018.

This year the Hon. Catherine King MP, Shadow Minister for Health, will be attending the roundtable to meet with ADIA members.

The Dental Industry Parliamentary Roundtable initiative, unique in the Australian dental community, provides an opportunity for a group of ADIA members, representing a wide cross-section of the industry, to engage in a series of one-on-one discussions with key decision makers in Canberra. Those attending this year’s Dental Industry Parliamentary Roundtable event include:

2018 Dental Industry Meets Parliament Attendees –

■ Hon. Greg Hunt MP – Minister for Health
■ Hon. Craig Laundy MP – Minister for Small and Family Business, the Workplace and Deregulation
■ Hon. Catherine King MP – Shadow Minister for Health
■ Mr Tony Zappia MP – Shadow Assistant Minister for Medicare
■ Adj. Prof. John Skerritt – Deputy Secretary, Health Department (TGA Head)
■ Ms Kate Carnell – Australian Small Business & Family Enterprise Ombudsman
■ Mr James Pearson – Chief Executive, Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Ms King is highly attune to the interests of ADIA members, and the medical technology sector more broadly, as a result of having served as Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Ageing over 2010 to 2013.  During this time, she had parliamentary oversight of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the nation’s regulator of dental products.

The Dental Industry Parliamentary Roundtable initiative is the centrepiece of ADIA’s political engagement strategy directed at increasing the profile of Australia’s dental industry as innovators. It also supports advocacy to achieve a regulatory framework for dental products that is based on a risk management approach designed to ensure public health and safety, while at the same time freeing industry from any unnecessary regulatory burden.

Member Engagement —

ADIA provides leadership, strategy, advocacy, and support. Our members set our agenda, fund our activities, and directly benefit from the results. With respect to the Association's work to reduce red-tape faced by the dental industry the team in the ADIA national office receive advice and guidance from members serving on the ADIA-TCPC Trade & Commercial Policy Committee and the ADIA-PRPC Product Regulation Policy Committee.
