2018 ADIA Annual Review - A year of growth and success

2018 ADIA Annual Review - A year of growth and success

2nd Nov 18

Summary —

As the 2018 ADIA Annual Review notes, the Association is larger and more financially secure than at any time in its history. This provides the foundation for the achievements that supports the growth of member businesses nationally.

Key Issues For The Dental Industry —

The Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) is the peak business organisation representing manufacturers and suppliers of dental products and is focussed on creating an environment in which member businesses can grow, create jobs and operate sustainably.  The 2018 ADIA Annual Review sets out the achievements in this area.

Throughout the course of the past year the ADIA Board, members, and staff have built upon the successes of the past to deliver some significant outcomes for member businesses.  From legislative reform, new market statistics, enhanced support for exporters to new research on the market for dental products, the outcomes have been good and built upon a strong financial basis and the advice we have received from members.

As the 2018 ADIA Annual Review notes, it’s pleasing to advise that, with the support of our member businesses, the Association has worked with stakeholders across government, the healthcare profession and industry to ensure that the dental industry is not only able to understand this change, but also to influence it.  Key highlights set out in the document include:

2018 ADIA Market Support —

■ Awarded the first ADIA New Exporters Grant to support local manufacturers.
■ Approved an agreement with MTP Connect to support collaboration in the area of innovation.
■ Provided funding of $67,000 to the ADRF that funds the ADIA Research Grant.

2018 ADIA Exhibition Outcomes —

■ Convened the ADX18 Sydney dental exhibition that saw an increase in exhibitor and visitor numbers.

2018 ADIA Product Regulation Outcomes —

■ Secured legislative reforms that allow the TGA to effectively police instances of illegal supply.
■ Successfully lobbied to have most types of dental implants excluded from more complex regulatory requirements.
■ Supported the development of new TGA advertising guidelines.
■ Provided industry leadership to support the TGA to develop new regulations for 3D-printed medical devices.

2018 ADIA Administrative Outcomes —

■ Membership growth of 4% over the year and 35% over the past five years.
■ Income of $4,023,796 and a surplus of $312,262

Other activities undertaken during the course of the year include hosting the 2018 Australian Dental Industry Excellence Awards and the 2018 Australian Dental Industry Growth Conference with both events recognised for their ability to bring stakeholders from across the dental industry together.

ADIA also convened the annual Dental Industry Meets Parliament roundtable meeting at parliament house in Canberra where the industry's leadership met with the Health Minister in addition to other parliamentarians and departmental stakeholders.

As the 2018 ADIA Annual Review clearly demonstrates, ADIA's greatest asset is its members, the businesses who allow their employees to volunteer and serve on the ADIA Boardnational committeesstate branches and special interest groups. This contribution, when coupled with the expertise and leadership provided by ADIA staff, is what has contributed to ADIA's long-term growth and knowledge capacity to support not only its members, but the broader dental industry.
