ADIA Members To Get Geospatial Market Data

The dental industry will next year have access to the latest geospatial tools to analyse the market for dental product thanks to a major investment in member services by the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA).
Key Issues For The Dental Industry —
Providing members with accurate data on the market for dental products has been a long-standing commitment of ADIA which has seen a number of market analysis reports rolled-out over the past five years. An exciting new tool will be introduced in 2018 thanks to a major investment by the ADIA Board made at its meeting on 6 December 2017.
Across the medicines and medical devices sector ADIA is recognised as a market leader in publishing high-quality data. This reputation is to be reinforced with the introduction of an online geospatial tool that provides unique insights on the distribution of key professionals such as dentists and related specialists such as orthodontists or oral and maxiofacial surgeons. ADIA’s new tool also maps the location of other key sectors of the dental workforce such as prosthetists, dental hygienists and dental therapists.
The dental industry will, via a password protected website, be able to look at a map of Australia and zoom down to study the distribution of the dental workforce at postcode level. Further refinement over the course of the coming year will allow ADIA member businesses to overlay this data with other statistics such as the number of dental practices in any given postcode or the number of digital imaging scanners in that region.
Once the beta testing phase has been completed, this new member resource will be launched at the ADX18 Sydney dental exhibition to be held over 23-25 March 2018.
The ability for dental product manufacturers and suppliers to have a visual representation of the dental workforce provides a valuable tool to support business planning and is a major priority for ADIA. The increased investment by in statistical collection and analysis stems from a commitment made in the 2016-20 ADIA Strategic Plan. This sets ADIA on a pathway to provide the tools that empower member businesses with the ability to understand and benefit from changes to the environment in which dental products are manufactured and supplied.
ADIA has committed to make the tool available to government and key stakeholders in the sector to support their own activities.
Employees of member businesses wishing to support the development of these tools are encouraged to get involved in the ADIA-MSPC Market Statistics Projects Committee which provides advice and guidance to the team in the ADIA national office who coordinate research projects.

New analysis shows that the dental industry has annual sales of $2.263 billion underpinned by average annual growth of 5.7% over the past ten years. It's not all good news as in FY2016-17 some sectors experienced a decline in sales.
