ADIA Chief Executive's Update - August 2017

ADIA Chief Executive's Update - August 2017

1st Aug 17

One of the things I like most about working for the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) is the way that members from businesses big and small come together to share experiences, explore ideas and collaborate on projects that make a difference.  Their contribution to ADIA is immense and that's why it was so pleasing to see their efforts recognised last month when ADIA received the prestigious Association Of The Year Award.

The Association Of The Year Award was presented to ADIA before more than three hundred stakeholders from across the not-for-profit sector at a gala dinner held in Sydney on 17 July 2017.  The awards were presented by Associations Forum, a body committed to assisting associations and charities in governance, operations, membership and finances.

ADIA received this award based upon judging criteria which, according to the judging panel, considered ADIA to have distinguished itself by achieving all-round excellence.  The award recognises ADIA’s demonstrated ability to influence government decision makingdeliver world-class exhibitions and publish meaningful market intelligence.  It also recognises the fact that thanks to prudent financial management, ADIA delivers its services at a cost to members lower than would otherwise be the case.

There are so many people that this award recognises, from the ADIA Board, those serving on ADIA National Committees and the ADIA State Branch leadership; however, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge the team in the national office who go above and beyond to support not only our members, but the broader dental community.  I couldn't be more appreciative or prouder of their efforts.

Finally, congratulations to Ms Pam Clark AO who was recognised in the recent Queen's Birthday Awards. This provides very public recognition of her commitment to ADIA and supporting the causes of importance to the industry.

Dental Chair Installation:  With the great support of the membership, the ADIA Victorian branch has successfully lobbied the state's electrical regulator, Energy Safe Victoria (ESV), to remove the requirement that dental chair installations be installed by a licensed electrician and certified by a registered inspector in most instances.  It's a significant red-tape reduction for the local industry. 3D Printing:  The brave new world of 3D printed medical devices is the subject of discussions to be held on 10 August 2017 in Melbourne between the TGA, ADIA and other stakeholders in the sector.  The ADIA-LIG Laboratory Interest Group provides the opportunity for members to contribute to the development of new regulations in this area.  [Read More]

Patient Implant Cards:  A proposal to further align the TGA's medical device regulatory requirements with those of the European Union has lead to proposals to mandate patient implant information cards.  This is being considered by members serving on the ADIA-PRPC Product Regulation Policy Committee and the ADIA-IIG Implant Interest Group to ascertain the compliance impact on dental product suppliers. [Read More]

TGA Enforcement:  As a result of ADIA's policy efforts, the TGA is actively progressing reforms to enhance its sanctions and penalty compliance framework.  Members serving on the ADIA-PRPC Product Regulation Policy Committee are currently supporting the TGA's efforts to use infringement notices to more effectively deal with those importing dental products via the internet.  It is expected that legislation will be before the parliament before year's end to secure long-awaited reform in this area.  [Read More]

WA Dental Show:  In just over a week's time members will have the opportunity to reach new clients at the 2017 ADIA Western Australian Dental Show.  The great thing about this event is the support that the accompanying continuing professional development program has received from stakeholders including the Australian Dental Association Western Australian Branch (ADA WA), Australasian Sleep Association (ASA), Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS) and the University of Western Australia Dental School (UWA).  [Visit Website]

ADX18 Sydney:  The first-stage of member allocations for ADX18 Sydney, Australia's premier dental event, has seen around sixty per cent of space sold. Allocation for member businesses will open on 2 August 2017 and be sure to keep an eye out for the email inviting your business to apply for space.  If you haven't received your invitation to the official ADX18 Sydney launch party to be held on 28 August 2017 be sure to contact the ADIA national office. [Visit Website]

Export Forum:  The annual Australian Dental Products Exporters Forum to be held in Canberra on 14 September 2017 is looking to be a sell-out event. Supported by the ADIA-MIG Manufacturers Interest Group this is a great opportunity to learn from others for those seeking to reach new overseas markets.  [Visit Website]

TGA Training:  Those wishing to better understand dental product regulation should book today to attend TGA Compliance Courses Introducing the Basics that's being held on 19 September 2017 in Melbourne.  Presented by an industry expert who is actively working with the TGA to shape the future of regulations, this course is sure to be of assistance to your business.
