2017 Budget — Export and innovation spending

The 2017 Australian Government Budget has funded existing programs that support dental product manufacturers and suppliers and has announced one new major initiative, the Advanced Manufacturing Fund.

Advanced Manufacturing Fund —

The Government will provide $101.5 million over five years from 2016‑17 to establish an Advanced Manufacturing Fund (the Fund) to promote research and capital development for high technology manufacturing businesses.

Amongst other projects, the fund will support expansion of the Cooperative Research Centres program to fund additional Cooperative Research Centre Projects targeting advanced manufacturing; an Advanced Manufacturing Early Stage Research Fund to support small scale and pilot research projects in advanced manufacturing; qnd establishment of a virtual design and engineering hub to maintain the flow of highly trained engineers.

In addition to this new initiative the Australian Government is providing ongoing funding to support the National Innovation and Science Agenda (NISA) and bodies such as MTP Connect that build collaborative partnerships in across the medical technology manufacturing sector.

Stakeholders from across the dental industry are encouraged to attend the 2017 ADIA Australian Government Budget Briefing that will be held on 24 May 2017 in Sydney. It will be presented by Bill Evans, the Chief Economist at Westpac. [Register Today]
