2018 Budget — Exporters Assistance

.

The Government will maintain $137.9 million funding of the Export Market Development Grant Scheme for 2018-19 and has projected that it will maintain this level of funding across forward estimates until 2021-22.

This is a vital commitment as the continuation of the scheme, which benefits Australian exporters, is contingent upon annual funding arrangements from the Government.

The EDM grant scheme is administered by Austrade and encourages Australian exporters to develop overseas markets for goods, services, and intellectual property and know-how, which are manufactured, provided or developed in Australia. The Scheme provides reimbursement of approximately up 50% of eligible expenditure incurred in the promotion and marketing of goods and services to overseas markets above a $5,000 threshold. The types of eligible expenditure are set out below:

EMDG Eligible Claims Exporters Can Make —

. Travel costs for marketing purposes
. Product promotion (free samples)
. Trade exhibitions
. Promotional literature and advertising material
. Overseas buyers visiting Australia, and trademark and patent registrations

This means that an eligible exporting business can receive up to 50 cents for every dollar they spend above $5,000 on the above export-promoting expenditures.
