ADIA CEO Update: Fifth Review of the Dental Benefits Act 2008: Report Released
)
In the second half of last year, ADIA participated in the fifth review of the Dental Benefits Act 2008 (the Act). The report has been tabled in Parliament this month.The report includes 21 recommendations for improving delivery of and access to the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), the only program operating under the Act. |
Increasing awareness and participation in the CDBS is a key advocacy focus for ADIA. It is encouraging to see a united call from respondents for increased awareness of the CDBS across the board, as well as a strong focus on equitable access to care for rural and remote children and priority populations.
The recommendations also include establishing a definition of children with 'high care needs' and increased benefits for that group, along with inclusion of treatment in a hospital setting and treatment provided under general anaesthetic.
The report is timely given the current Senate Select Committee Inquiry into the Provision of and Access to Dental Services in Australia. (Read the interim report here.)
ADIA continues to advocate for increased awareness of the CDBS for eligible children in Australia. Any developments on the report recommendations and the Senate Select Inquiry will be shared via this update as they become available.

TGA Point-of-Care Survey for the Dental Sector
)
Good afternoon, The TGA has developed a dental and oral health survey, for professionals, practitioners and technicians involved in the dental sector. In order to provide the TGA with as much feedback as possible ADIA is inviting all members to complete the survey, as well as share it with relevant clients and contacts. What does the survey cover?The survey aims to ensure regulation for medical devices manufactured at the point-of-care remains fit-for-purpose. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and aims to capture information about point-of-care manufacturing activities including what kind of devices are being manufactured, who is manufacturing the devices and what measures are currently in place to ensure devices are safe and fit for their intended purpose. ADIA encourages you to complete the survey and pass it on to your relevant clients before it closes on Sunday 7 May 2023.

ADIA CEO Update: Federal Budget Update
)
|
The Labor Government has handed down its first budget this week. There were no real surprises with many of the spending measures going towards election promises. The Government introduced cost of living support measures including increases to paid parental leave and improvements to childcare affordability. Aged Care reforms discussed in these updates previously were also funded. The relevant Bill passed the Senate yesterday. ADIA continues to advocate for improvements to oral health services in Residential Aged Care. There was no extension of the Temporary Full Expensing provision. This measure is due to finish 30 June 2023. ADIA will now begin work on a pre-budget submission for 2023-2024. Members are invited to provide comments or feedback for the submission here. |
